When you hear ‘Easter’, what do you think about?
The four-day long weekend? Chocolate for breakfast? Jesus’ death?
My guess is that Jesus’ resurrection is somewhere at the end of your list (if it even makes the list at all).
Everyone knows Jesus died at Easter. Crucifixion was the most brutal form of punishment possible, reserved only for the worst criminals. Jesus was stripped naked. Mocked. Beaten. Scourged. Hands and feet nailed to a wooden cross. Left there to die.
But Jesus’ death is only half of the Easter Story. The Bible says that Jesus came back to life.
Why do you seek the living among the dead? He is not here, but has risen. Remember how He told you, while He was still in Galilee, that the Son of Man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men and be crucified and on the third day rise … but these words seemed to them an idle tale and they did not believe them.
Luke 24:5-11
You might think it’s stupid to believe in the resurrection. Well, even Jesus’ first followers didn’t believe at first and thought the reports of Jesus being alive again were just ‘an idle tale’. But then they met the risen Jesus and their lives were changed forever.
We’d love you to join us at Anchor Church this Easter Sunday, and consider the Bible’s claim that JESUS IS ALIVE. We believe it is a message that is historically credible and profoundly relevant for our lives today.
