IT’S ALL ABOUT JESUS

Matt Sparks, 15th July 2016 / City

Matt Sparks is the Lead Pastor of Anchor Church, in this blog post he explains our new sermon series beginning this week, ‘It’s All About Jesus’.

A phrase we often use at Anchor is ‘we want to make Jesus famous’. Of course we can’t add fame to Him (as if he lacks it), nor is the church simply a PR team for Jesus. What we mean by this is that Jesus would be worshipped, adored and loved.

Colossians is a book that does just that.

In it we find some of Paul’s most profound and exalted statements about Jesus. It is a letter that reminds us that Jesus is stunningly worthy of all our worship.

To that end, we kick off a 12-week series in Colossians, starting July 17, called: ‘It’s All About Jesus’.

In what is typical of Paul’s letters, Colossians starts by laying the foundation of the gospel before it calls us to godliness. The gospel is always the central motivation for both our coming to Jesus and our continuing in Jesus.

In Colossians Paul calls worshippers of Jesus to become practically who they are positionally in Christ.

“Therefore, as you received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in Him, rooted and built up in Him and established in the faith, just as you were taught, abounding in thanksgiving.” Colossians 2:6-7 ESV

Colossians is about how the Lordship of Jesus plays out in ALL spheres of our life.

Francis Schaeffer says, “If [Jesus] is not Lord of ALL, he’s not Lord at all.”

Colossians gives us a version of reality with Jesus firmly at the centre. This letter is so important because Jesus too quickly loses His central place in our hearts and our church. Without Jesus at the centre, our lives will crumble and our church will fail. We need to make everything we do “all about Jesus”.

Join us this Sunday, July 17, as Arnaldo Santiago (Gospel Communities Director) kicks off what we believe will be a significant and life changing series.

10:30am, The Factory Theatre – 105 Victoria Rd, Marrickville
