Meet Sam Beckman

30th March 2015 / City

Over the next few months, we’re interviewing some of our Anchor Family to find out their experiences at Anchor and how God has been working in their lives. Time to meet Sam Beckman!

1. What do you love about Anchor Church?

I love that Anchor is real about what our purpose in life is as Christians, which is to reach the lost and unsaved for God’s glory. There’s no hiding away and pushing that to the side at Anchor, which is super challenging and encouraging. We’re not solely trying to get people into the four walls of church to hear the gospel—we’re trying to break down those walls and barriers to take the gospel to them.

2. How has God been at work in your life since joining Anchor?

I’ve been super challenged about my gospel intentionality with my non-Christian friends. Before coming to Anchor, I could probably count the amount of times in a year I had intentional conversations with my non-Christian friends on one hand. God has been constantly pushing me to make every situation and friendship about pursuing them for Him.

3. Tell us about your experiences of being in community at Anchor.

I love the fact that at Anchor, we really mean it when we describe our church as “family”. We eat together, we pray together, we even hang out outside of church gatherings! We do life together and it’s awesome. To be even more specific, I’ve really seen some of my Christian brothers get alongside me to support me in pursuing my non-Christian friends. They pray for them, come to events to meet them and it’s super encouraging.

4. How does Anchor equip you to live on mission in everyday life?

One of the key ways is through the sermon each Sunday. At the heart of most, if not every sermon is the encouragement and challenge to be on mission in every aspect of our lives. As a result, every single week equips us for the week ahead at work, study and with our unsaved family and friends. With everything at Anchor being so focussed on reaching the lost and unsaved, it is impossible not to find yourself being naturally equipped to live on mission—whether it be through the constant encouraging stories of opportunities and examples of God at work in people’s hearts, or through challenging each other in our Gospel Communities. Whatever it may be, because Anchor’s primary vision is to see the city of Sydney saved for God’s glory, it is nearly impossible to avoid being equipped to live on mission in everyday life. And that is awesome.
