‘O Holy Night’ is one of the most well-known Christmas carols. Mariah Carey’s rendition has over 22 Million views on YouTube! But did you know that the very first Christmas carol was written the night Jesus was born and performed that same night by a vast heavenly choir?
That first Christmas night, a phenomenal event took place. Heaven itself pulled back its curtain and burst into song (carol) over the good news of Christ’s birth! In Luke 2:14 we’re told a vast multitude of heavenly host appeared and sang these words:
“Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace among those with whom he is pleased!”
This moment was the pinnacle of human history … and heaven knew it! Never again has heaven erupted with such joy! Don’t let the familiarity of Christmas make you lose the significance of the event.
Joyful worship is the only fitting response to the world changing birth of Jesus. “The shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all they had heard and seen” (Luke 2:20).
