The story of Abraham is a fascinating true story about God’s promises, faith, deception, waiting and fulfilment. It’s a journey of faith that powerfully connects with our experience and ultimately points us to Jesus.
Abraham—nicknamed the Aramean wanderer (Deuteronomy 26:5)—is called by God to leave his home and family to embark on a journey to an unknown destination. In faith, Abraham obeys and sojourns across the Middle East in search of the fulfilment of God’s promises.
The promises God gives Abraham are as astounding as they are impossible. Abraham (75 years old) and Sarah—his barren wife in her mid-sixties—are promised that from their family an entire nation will emerge! They’re promised land and fame and blessing and protection. In fact, God goes as far as promising to use them as a vehicle for blessing the whole world (Genesis 12:3)!
As we journey along with Abraham and Sarah we will see a raw view of both their victories and loses. This is a story of faith and what it looks like to live in the gap between promise and reality.
