On Sunday 3rd April we celebrated as five of our members were baptised, publicly declaring their faith in Jesus Christ. Jordan McKenzie was one of those five and in this blog post Jordan shares his testimony.
I grew up in a Christian family and I’ve always really struggled to kind of make it real for me. I knew all the stories and everything but I just didn’t know where to take it from there.
Mum and Dad divorced when I was around 12 and we all moved to Young, my brother sister and I, a small country town with Mum. There wasn’t much there for my faith, so that was kind of hard. I still kept all my morals and everything that I was brought up with, but I sort of was just going through the motions there and still searching.
As soon as I finished school I went to Bathurst and met a great group of people who got me plugged into church. I’m really thankful to those guys for looking after me through those years. But I was still searching then.
I started working for my mate Mickey, we cut wood on a farm. Tragically Mick passed away in an accident one day and then I didn’t really have any reason to be in Bathurst, so I moved to Sydney.
I got into a relationship which maybe wasn’t beneficial for my faith, and I kind of put it on the back burner for a couple of years.
We travelled to South America together, and on the day we got back the relationship ended and I was kind of stuck back at the bottom, back to square one again. My job was tied up in that, all my friends were tied up in that, my whole life was in that. So when that was gone I didn’t really have much of anything. I’m not proud of it but that’s when I turned to God, and I’m thankful for where I am now. When I turned to God He really looked after me and it’s been looking on the up since then. That was about a year ago and I really started to get to know God then.
I got plugged into Anchor, found a really good group of people who really supported me in my growth, Bryan and Tara (Henderson) have done a lot for me.
Now I’m here, and it’s really encouraging to look back on all those things that have happened and see how God looked after me in them. But not only that, He’s used them for His grand plan. And now I’m excited to live my life through that and grow in that relationship with God that we all so need.
