Anchor Church Sydney began in January 2014 with 17 people praying in a small two-bedroom apartment in Erskineville.
We began with a desire to see the city of Sydney come to know Jesus. We were struck by the statistics—over 4 million people that don’t know Jesus; over 60% of churchgoers over the age of 50—and we realised there is a desperate need for churches to reach the emerging generation. We had a vision of a church that would see our city transformed by the gospel as we made disciples of Jesus.
As we shared our vision, God grew our team, and we began meeting in Gospel Communities scattered across our city. We started sharing our lives together as a family, praying expectantly for God build his church.
We had our public launch on 18 May 2014 and have been making disciples and multiplying Gospel Communities ever since. Today, we’re a vibrant family of churches with over 400 adults and kids.
94% of Australian millennials do not regularly attend church. God’s arms are wide open and he’s called us to do whatever it takes to bring the wayward home.
That’s why we’re committed to multiplying healthy churches across our city. We’re convinced that new churches best reach new people. We are actively raising up world-changing leaders to send them out to share Jesus with the de-churched and unchurched across our city.
